My take

The CH341A is a compact USB programmer for compatible serial EEPROM and SPI flash memory. It can access socketed chips through its ZIF socket or connect to surface-mounted SOIC8/SOP8 packages with a test clip.

Typical operations include identifying supported chips, reading their contents, saving backups, erasing memory, writing images and verifying the result with software such as flashrom.
